It is what it is.
In life, we will all face problems, obstacles, bad days....in psychology I've learned that, "It is what it is." The way in which we cope with "it" (our problems) is what makes all the difference. Complaining about something doesn't get me any closer to bettering the situation...it will most likely make it worse because it means dwelling on whatever the obstacle is.
As I was contemplating this idea, a few things I'd heard/read before came to mind. The first is a verse and the second two are lyrics
--------------------------------
>>>I really love 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. "Be joyful always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (NIV)
--------------------------------
>>>Sum 41's "The Hell Song"
"Everybody's got their problems. Everybody says the same thing to you. It's just a matter of how you solve them, And knowing how to change the things you've been through. I feel I've come to realize how fast life can be compromised. Step back to see what's going on."
--------------------------------
>>>Desert Song by Hillsong
"This is my prayer in the desert. And all that's within me feels dry. This is my prayer in the hunger in me. My God is a God who provides. And this is my prayer in the fire. In weakness or trial or pain. There is a faith proved Of more worth than gold. So refine me Lord through the flames. All of my life. In every season. You are still God. I have a reason to sing. I have a reason to worship."
-------------------------------
I could see this topic leading into a discussion of the difference between joy and happiness....Within what I have experienced of Christianity the two are distinguished. Happiness is temporary, ever-changing based on circumstances and feelings. Joy, on the other hand, is constant and not dependent upon our day-to-day circumstances.
Very interesting stuff :) :)
