Are Jews awaiting a Messiah?
The word messiah means something different to Jews than it does to Christians. Christians use this word to mean "savior" and believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah. Jews, on the other hand, do not recognize this concept of an awaited savior. In Hebrew the word "Messiah" is "moshiach" and means "annointed one." Jewish people used the term for kings, high priests, and warriors. Cyrus, the emperor of Persia, was referred to as "messiah" (in the Cyrus Cylinder) because, by conquering Babylon, he allowed the Israelites to return home.
--I will add to this later. I still want to look into how Jews view prophecy and if there is one awaited Messiah, even if it's not in the sense that Christianity thinks of it.
