Blue House Familia
I am so incredibly tired...I couldn't get to sleep until 4:30am last night or should I say this morning...yet I'm not able to fall asleep yet - I am too excited. I am excited because tomorrow night four freakin awesome people are coming to visit for the weekend!!!! Three of these lovely ladies, Mattie Jo, Cara & Michelle, I lived with for a semester in the "blue house," as we were all part of a ministry called Lightbearers. Though she couldn't come this weekend, Rachel Wankum was our fearless house leader. Lauren Minor works for Lightbearers and was our bible study leader/mentor. Dids and Claire didn't live at the Blue House but really became part of the "blue house" after multiple sleepovers and lots of Friday nights hanging out. I decided to write this blog....one because I can't sleep....two because I want these girls to know how much I love them and what an impact they've had on my life....

Michelle, better known as "Mish-AIL"-
Dearest little sister, I loved you from the minute we met. I remember specifically - it was at "Meet GAL" - I was there early to film something - and you were the first to walk in the door....We talked for a while...just getting to know each other...small talk...fast-forward to big-little night...after meeting all the rushees that night you were my first choice! And lucky me - I got you as my little sis in GAL!! This was just the beginning of a friendship that would outlast our involvement in GAL. I remember the first time we hung out - you drove because I didn't have a car at that point...Crazy, this was still my freshman year!!...we went out to eat and then to a bookstore where I picked out some of my favorites for ya. We started meeting each week for a bible study...at dinner that night I told you about Lightbearers...you were interested right off the bat!!...little did I know we'd end up living together!! Living together sophomore year was so fun!!! Eating at your grandma's restaurant, always yummy!! You are super easy to get along with and super go with the flow, which I love! You are up for anything and can I just say I absolutely love talking with you and hearing all of your philosophical ideas and insights? I love that you can't wait to be a mom and how important family is to you. That time when you got Claire all ready for the GAL dance, doing her hair and such, is just one of many where I saw the 'motherliness' in you! You will be a great mom! One of my favorite blue house times together was when I would play the piano and you would just come lay on the futon and listen. You have an appreciation for life and all the little things that's just beautiful. I am so proud of you for getting into nursing school and know you are going to succeed with that....can't wait to hang out more this year in Springfield!!! I will cook you dinner :)

Mattie Jo -
Crazy to think back on how we met. It was through Kelsey Pingleton that I ended up at your church's bible study outside of Wells freshman year...even your mom and dad were there leading it. We crossed paths again when you auditioned for and got the part in Garrett and I's video, "Forgotten." Who knew we would end up being roommates in the Blue House????!! It was such a positive experience living with you for that 1st semester...I love your outgoing personality and your passion for life and living it to the fullest. You are incredibly motivated and push yourself to be the best possible version of yourself everyday. You're serious about your faith, yet never legalistic...very real life and understanding. I loved seeing you in One Acts, the play and at Rockstar...you are talented, let me just say! I love your honesty and willingness to talk about pretty much anything and everything. I've learned a lot from you in regards to faith, relationships, and just life in general. Thanks for being a genuine friend and fabulous roommate!

Cara -
Caaaaaawwwwwwwaaaa. Perhaps I should consider myself lucky we are even friends considering you didn't like me when we first met! Haha. I still find that quite hilarious. I am deeply grateful that we are friends though and I think you are a beautiful person inside and out. For reals - you are someone I know I can count on. I remember numerous times I locked my keys in my car and guess who I called to bail me out and eventually gave my spare key to keep, just in case it happened again, which it did! - yep, YOU!! You're always ready and willing to go out of your way to help others....Thanks for listening to me in all the ups and downs of my faith/lack thereof. I love that you always came downstairs to talk - and how excited you'd get when I'd come over, after I moved out. You are an extremely talented artist and I love how the upstairs of the blue house pretty much became an art gallery. Thanks for not making fun of my attempts at painting, lol. Our roadtrip to Fayetteville was soooo fun and I think that we should plan future roadtrips - we can go to Arkansas again!! I love you a whole whole lot and we are definitely hanging out this year. Come to my apartment anytime!

Rachel -
I knew of you from GAL before doing Lightbearers, but didn't really get to know you until living in the Blue House a while. Thanks for being such a great leader for the Blue House! I love how excited you'd get about things we'd plan to do together as a house and just your commitment to the community aspect of the house. In the busyness of life, sometimes I'd get distracted from the most important thing in life - relationships. I remember a couple of conversations we had on different occasions up in your room and just how real and raw we were with one another - I loved that! I know you are going to be an incredible mentor/intern for Lightbearers this year and can't wait to hear about what the next mission trip is you'll be going on!

Lauren -
We met at a GAL meeting freshman year, 1st semester. You were there to talk about Lightbearers and though I wasn't sure about doing it yet - you invited me to a freshman bible study and even offered to do one-on-one discipleship with me. This was an answer to prayer at the time! Your commitment to God is unwavering and that is truly something I admire you for. Thank you for all the rides and for meeting with me freshman year and continuing to walk through some tough stuff with me sophomore year. I've learned a lot from you and love discussing the Bible and such with ya. I think we should play tennis this year!! Love you!

Dids -
Oh Dids!!! I'm so glad we are friends. You are one of the best conversationalists I know - and always seem to crack me up! Not only do you have an awesome personality, but you are a very good cook. Thanks for cooking for us and coming over n hanging out at the blue house lots! Clubbing was fun, too :) You are bold and you are fearless and I love being around ya. Can't wait for more fun times this year!

Claire
Claire you are the best friend a girl could ask for. You are pretty much the most patient human being I know...I'm so excited for you that you are going to China in the Spring. Miss social butterfly, you won't have any trouble making friends and finding lots of fun activities to be a part of there. Thanks for always being there for me to listen or just hang out...you are so loving and simple and drama-free and I love that about you. You are a hard-worker and never willing to give up. You make me laugh a lot and girl, I just know that you are someone I can trust. I know that you will give me good advice...that you are the one who'll be there for me when I'm just having a bad day. Thanks for being you!!

A few of my favorite blue house quotes:
(Michelle has the most by far...I also noticed...she's in every one of the pictures!)
**Michelle: "Julie, did you call for a taxi?"
**Mattie Jo: "Sorry I'm squishing you Michelle (in cramped car)
Michelle: "That's ok, I like the pressure."
**Michelle: "Well...do you go to the coastline often?"
**Michelle: "I want to have a good time tonight"
**Michelle: "Cara! I just remembered, you remind me of a cat!"
**Cara: "Hey, what were you laughing at a while ago?"
Julie: "Something Rachel said, why?"
Cara: "Well, I was dancing in the shower and I thought maybe you could see me."
**Julie & Rachel: "Cara, will you please ask Michelle if you can draw her naked?"
**Claire: "Would that be okaaay?"
**Michelle: And he's such a rough lover. (Talking about Leonardo Dicaprio)
**Mattie Jo: Make it fart.
Cara: That's what she said.
**Julie: Do you wanna fight?
**Julie: If I gave you $20 would you eat that piece of wall?
